Vintage botanical illustration of an edible amaranth (Amaranthus tricolor), also known as bireum, tampala, callaloo and ‘Joseph’s coat’.
The original drawing was made by Madame Berthe Hoola van Nooten for a 19th century book portraying exotic tropical flowers, fruits and plants from the island of Java. Digitally restored and cleaned.
