Sodalite is a blue tectosilicate mineral widely used as an ornamental gemstone. Although massive sodalite samples are opaque, crystals are usually transparent to translucent. Sodalite usually comes in beautiful shades of royal blue color, often with white specks and ribbon-like insets of calcit.
