My minimalist poster design for the beautiful Puccini opera ‘Madama Butterfly’.

Madama Butterfly tells the story of a young, naive geisha named Cio-Cio San (butterfly in Japanese) who marries Pinkerton, a US Navy Lieutenant at the beginning of the 1900s in Nagasaki, Japan. Pinkerton considers their marriage a comfortable ‘short term lease’ and betrays her love and commitment by leaving her and marrying another woman.

The sheet music at the bottom of the poster is from Butterfly’s beautiful soprano aria ‘Un bel di vedremo’.
