My original poster design for Puccini’s opera Turandot
Puccini’s last work is the bloody story of a slightly psychopathic Chinese princess named Turandot who has her suitors beheaded if they fail to solve her riddles and the equally problematic young Prince Calaf who pretty light-heartedly sacrifices the life of his father’s young slave girl, Liu, in order to get the princess’ hand. A charming couple :)!
Puccini couldn’t finish composing this opera before his death, the remaining scenes were completed by Franco Alfano using Puccini’s notes.
The sheet music at the bottom of the poster is from Prince Calaf’s aria ‘Nessun dorma’, the signature aria of Luciano Pavarotti, one of the greatest tenors of all time.
